ARCHITECTURAL INTERACTION : Land and Man

The character of a golf course comes from the interaction of the architect with the land.

The golf architect studies the land, absorbing its nuances, discovering golf holes-in-waiting, forging shapes to create new ones, sifting innumerable options. All the time embellishing and celebrating the landscape and setting the scene for the golfers’ challenges and enjoyment.

Many different factors - mind, matter, soil, rock, sun, flora, wind, water, the aims and rules of the game of golf - all entwine and evolve solutions. The architect composes the arrangement, organises its implementation, then withdraws to the wings.

Rock : problem or design opportunity ?

A perfect natural Par 3 or too extreme ?

Gorgeous, but over exposed to salt spray ?

A “Deep Rough” you can enjoy ?
